Salmon Hatchery Heavily Damaged 09-02-20 17:49 DC

The Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout project suffered hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage caused by the CZU Lightning Complex, a major setback for Coho Salmon conservation.

The fishery, located off Swanton Road near Davenport, was nearly destroyed in the fire.

The Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout project is seeking help in getting it restored and back up and running.

Facilities Manager Chuck Backman said 30,000 Coho Salmon hatchlings survived the CZU Lightning Complex fire when it burned through the King Fisher Flat Hatchery on Aug. 16.

While those lucky ones made it, 30,000 others did not.

Normally, the Coho are released during the spring, but because of the conditions there, they’re going to try to relocate them as soon as possible.
