Salinas police apprehended two car thieves late a a couple of hours apart. Shortly before midnight Thursday, officers found 35-year-old Sammy Martinez, was asleep in the driver’s seat of a stolen Mercedes. A short time later a patrol unit spotted 34-year-old Gonzalo Madrid in a stlen Honda. Madrid attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended nearby. Both suspects were booked into Monterey County jail.
