The California Public Utilities Commission plans to hold a Public Hearing this evening, where members will discuss Cal-Am’s proposed rate increases. Public Water Now said Cal-Am is asking for an average statewide increase of 10.6 percent in 2021, a 3.6 percent increase in 2022, and a 3.8 percent rate hike in 2023. Cal-Am is also accused of trying to hide another 15 to 20 percent increase in some new surcharges. The Public Advocates Office at the C-P-U-C is working to stop surcharges that would increase water rates between general rate cases. This evening’s public hearing is slated to begin at 6 p-m in the Seaside City Council Chamber.
