Aptos Creek Fire Road is scheduled to be closed today while several prescribed burns take place in the Forest of Nisene Mark’s State Park in Aptos. Cal-Fire officials say the smoke from these controlled burns are likely to be visible in Santa Clara county as well as most of the Monterey Bay Area. These ‘burns’ (at the Forest of Nisene Mark’s State Park), are part of a statewide Fuel Reduction Project to reduce the threat of wildfire, are slated to take place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. today. People who are sensitive to the smoke are encouraged to stay indoors with their windows closed during that time, and for a while thereafter (until the smoke dissipates).
