A former Hartnell College student has been awarded a degree from the college….posthumously. That after 37 year-old Daniel Martinez had earned enough credits for a degree before he was shot and killed in Salinas on Labor Day. Although he was not enrolled when he was shot, he was remembered as a scholar in the Men’s Institute For Leadership And Education. Martinez, who also worked with disabled students, will be listed among the graduates next year….and his family has been invited to attend the graduation ceremony.
The college is also planning a memorial for Martinez….as a way to honor his legacy for future generations.
