With a month-long summer break coming up for State Legislators, they are working together to try and pass a package of wildfire bills by Friday. These bills would allow the creation of a wildfire fund of tens of billions of dollars. Utilities and ratepayers would pay into the fund, and utilities could tap it to help pay for wildfire damages if they follow certain safety steps, including tying THEIR executive pay to safety measures in place. Utilities would also have to invest billions in wildfire mitigation efforts. These bills now head to the assembly.
