Caltrans and its contractors are working hard to bridge the two sides of the Big Sur coast through Pfeiffer Canyon. Within the next two weeks, the girders that will support the 310-foot single span bridge across Pfeiffer Canyon, will be built and delivered. The engineering project of launching the bridge will be a slow process and will be handled with care to leave no room for error. The replacement bridge was put on expedited track because local businesses were losing revenue and travelers from all over had to re-organize their travel plans to fit the closure of big sur.
The bridge construction is on schedule for a mid- to late September completion date.
