A man described as a “person-of-interest” in the deaths of two Monterey County horses has agreed to speak to investigators. Benjamin Montano Hernandez was identified as caretaker for the horses, whose decomposed bodies were found in their stalls on October 17th.
After hearing media reports that Monterey County SCPA investigators wanted to speak to him, Hernandez contacted the agency and an interview is being arranged. The horses were found at a property on Strawberry Road in Royal Oaks.
Hernandez potentially faces criminal animal cruelty charges, to be determined after the interview takes place.
