Just before Christmas and for the last five years, the city of Santa Cruz has donated parking meter fees collected downtown to charity.
City spokesperson Heather Sawyer says the project, called Parking for Hope, benefits non-profit Hope Services.
Sawyer says Hope Services has helped to keep Pacific Avenue and other downtown Santa Cruz streets clean for over 20 years while providing training and support services to adults with developmental disabilities.
Usual parking rates apply. The donation program begins tomorrow and signs on downtown meters are being installed today.
