One of the challenges facing low-income people is finding housing that is both affordable and safe. A new Salinas development, open for about a month, seeks to be both secure and housing that families can afford.
The development, at Main and Rossi streets, is in a neighborhood some regard as unsafe and not a good place for families to live. Monterey County Supervisor, Luis Alejo, said the complex was designed for families and helps beautify the east side of town.
Security features at the complex, called Hikari, include a locked, residents-only gate for access.
