Salinas city council members have approved a plan to re-zone for the “West Area Specific Plan”. That gives the city a green light to break ground on a project to construct 4,400 new housing units, and well as new schools and parks, in north Salinas. The city hopes to break ground on this project in October, and expects build-out to take 20 or 30 years.
