Hundreds of new laws are expected to go into effect January 1st. Some of those are: An increase in the state minimum wage; The reclassification of hundreds of thousands of so-called independent contractors; Limits on gun purchases (including that a person banned from having a gun in another state can no longer legally possess one in California either); Children whose parents have unpaid school lunch bills won’t be denied access to at least alternate meal selection, and they cannot be shamed (or treated differently) than other students.
