(15:00) Carmel- Significant Progress has been made in the rebuilding of Highway 1, following the mudslide in May of last year wherein an estimated 8 million cubic yards of rock slid off the mountain at Mud Creek-south of Big Sur. This closure that has cut off the stretch of highway between Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties over the last 8 months has been taken on by Caltrans who has divided the $40 million project into two parts, The top half, where the slide is still active, and the bottom half where crews are busy building a small peninsula into the ocean. The repairs are projected to be finished by late summer of this year.
