Yesterday (Thurs), Monterey County reported a big increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. The addition of 35 new cases brings the county’s total to 621.
County Health Officer Edward Moreno said increased testing as well as an increase in large social gatherings can be blamed for the new cases of COVID.
Moreno told reporters that Mother’s Day and Memorial Day gatherings have caused COVID-19 to spread. Contract tracing has shown those gatherings contributed to the increased number of positive tests.
Almost two-thirds (61%) of Monterey County’s COVID cases have been reported from Salinas. And 38 percent involved the agriculture industry.
