(Monterey) 5:15: Monterey County Sheriff Steve Bernal announced earlier today that the department will eliminate the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (better known as I.C.E.) office inside the Monterey County Jail. This comes in response to California Governor Jerry Brown pronouncing California a sanctuary states in earlier this year. Sheriff Bernal took this action in the hope that the undocumented community will feel safer coming forward as victims or witnesses of crimes with fear of deportation.
