A company that discharged processed wastewater, and polluted storm water, has agreed to pay more than a million dollars to the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board. People with Monterey Mushroom reportedly made those un-authorized discharges into tributaries of the Elkhorn Slough back in 2017, from 2 of their mushroom growing facilities.
A portion of the settlement will be used to pay for a supplemental environmental project which will provide household-level water treatment for as many as 20 disadvantaged households in north Monterey county.
