Monterey area hospitals are receiving record breaking numbers of flu related patients. Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula or CHOMP saw 234 patients with symptoms related to the flu outbreak last Thursday, typically the facility sees a peak of 150 patients during the season. The increase in people suffering from the influenza virus raised the emergency room wait to up to four hours. Santa Cruz and San Benito counties are experiencing similar outbreaks.
