The newly released annual report on Monterey County crops showed a 3.5% increase in value last year over 2018, with a total crop value of $4.4 billion.
This was the first year that a cannabis production report was released. Nearly $450 million worth of cannabis was cultivated on 86 acres last year. Monterey County received $14.8 million in taxes, up from $5.5 million in 2017-2018.
Monterey County’s top crops for 2019 were leaf lettuce, up 14.6%, strawberries, up 4.9%, head lettuce, up 11.9%, and broccoli, which increased by 17.6% last year.
