Along with the local crop reports for each county, the Middlebury Institute Of International Studies has produced a report on the “economic contributions of Monterey county agriculture”. Beyond just local crop production values, and acreage, that is in the standard Annual Crop Report, this report also includes local processing, employment, and other economic “multiplier” effects. All-in-all the report says the Ag industry in Monterey county contributed $11.66 Billion in 2018….which was a 43.6 percent increase from the 2015 report (which was based on data from 2013).
The report further stated that agriculture supported more than 57,500 jobs….which is nearly 23% of the county’s total employment.
