Monterey County’s bag ban goes into effect today (Friday). The ban on single use plastic bags officially started 6 months ago, however residents and stores were given a 6 month grace period to prepare for the legislation which applies to all unincorporated areas of the county. The law requires consumers to bring their own reusable bags or to be prepared to purchase paper bags at 10 cents a piece.
