A Monterey County man was killed in state prison on Tuesday. 37-year-old Richard Leyva was reportedly attacked by two other inmates.
Corrections officials said Leyva has been sentenced to serve time for assault with a firearm. He was ordered to spend 14-years jail for that 2011 conviction.
More recently, Leyva was sound guilty and received an 8-year sentence for an in-prison assault with a deadly weapon.
Leyva was reportedly stabbed multiple times by two inmates — Luiz Ortega and Vincent Martinez — using jail-made weapons, which were recovered.
