The Monterey county board of supervisors approved more staffing for the county jail expansion.
For now, the sheriff’s office took the money from the sheriff’s budget, instead of the county budget… for now.
The sheriff’s department is asking six new deputies and 14 support staff members for both the new and old jail… that’s expected to cost an additional 2-million dollars.
The sheriff says he doesn’t want to take sheriff’s deputies off the street to staff the jail, as they are already stretched to the limit.
