Scientists from around the Monterey Peninsula will head up a 2-day mission to study the effects of shipping containers lost at sea. Starting tonight, researchers with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary will launch a robotic submersible off a Moss Landing Harbor to investigate a 4,200 foot site just outside of the Monterey Bay. Scientists are looking to study the affects a container full of steel-belted tires, that fell off a ship back in 2004, have on the area in and around the container.
