Store closing signs went up this week in front of a much-loved furniture store on 41st avenue in Santa Cruz.
Modern life, a well-known local furniture store announced will close before the end of the year.
Changing customer demographics, economic uncertainty, online competition, and an upcoming long-term lease renewal combined to convince owner Jill Sollitto that now – meaning December – is the time to go.
Sollitto says the store, open for 18 years on 41st avenue, expects to close by Christmas, but will continue ordering some new merchandise and accepting customer’s special orders.
Modern life has operated in Santa Cruz since 1985 and on 41st avenue since 1996. If you drive by you’ll see the signs that announce the closing.
