Hundreds of firefighters are working to get control of the 1,000-acre Mineral Fire burning near Highway 198, causing the closure of a portion of that highway. The blaze broke-out yesterday, west of Coalinga near Mineral Springs Road. The wildfire is considered 5 percent contained, and the evacuation of at least 10 homes is in-progress at this time. The command post for firefighters has been set up at the Coalinga Rodeo Grounds.
