In a close race for Monterey County Sheriff, Deputy Steve Bernal is in the lead against Sheriff Scott Miller by 1,000 votes. But the race is not over yet, with over 30,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots not yet counted. Bernal has served as a deputy for fifteen years and Miller has over thirty years of experience in the law enforcement field. Eighteen of those years were spent in positions of executive leadership. The winning candidate will be managing a law enforcement office with over 400 employees and a budget of $89 million. The final results of the Monterey County Sheriff’s race are expected tomorrow.
