There’s a new danger at Marina State Beach where the cliffside has become a popular spot for people to build do-it-yourself beach caves.
The Marina Fire Department says the caves and sand hillsides can be attractive to children but are also dangerous. The caves are unstable and may collapse with little warning, potentially trapping those inside and creating a difficult rescue situation for first responders.
Marina Fire’s best advice is just to stay away from the state beach hillsides and caves.
