(10:10) Big Sur – Monterey County Office of Emergency Services is planning to airlift in supplies to people who are trapped in Big Sur. The winter storms have caused the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge to fail and have left some areas only accessible by helicopter. Crews plan on bringing fuel, food, and pet supplies down to residents and businesses today. It will take about 11 helicopter trips to deliver all the goods to the 450 people in need. The county is paying the helicopter bill and it also bought the diesel. The total cost is $20,000 out of county pocket and it is coming from the county’s General Fund. The pet supplies are coming from the SPCA for Monterey County and the food is being bought by the residents. Caltrans plans to demolish the bridge and rebuild but has not released a timeline.
