March 27, 2016: Seaside Vehicle Thefts Up

(10:26) SEASIDE-Seaside police are investigating a recent rise in vehicle thefts. Authorities say there have been over 20 vehicles reported stolen since the beginning of the year. The thieves tend to target motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and Honda Accords. A California Highway Patrol report states that the Honda Accord has been the number one stolen vehicle since 2006. To avoid becoming a victim  it is advised you secure your vehicle. Keep it locked at all times even when you are driving. Never leave your keys in the car when you are parked and close all the windows and sunroof. Park your vehicle in a high visibility area or a well-lit area at night whenever possible. Install an anti-theft system in your vehicle if it does not have one. Have the vehicle identification number (VIN) etched on the glass and other parts of the car. This discourages chop shops. Report all suspicious activity, and write down dates, times, descriptions. If you can do it safely, take a picture with your phone or a video.
