(07:46) SALINAS – A federal judge has ruled in favor of an ordinance in Salinas that would enable city officials to clear out homeless encampments. In December, the city council voted in favor of a policy that would allow crews to remove tents and mattresses from the streets. The decision was made in an effort to improve public health and safety. The new law was met by criticism from local homeless advocates, who filed a preliminary injunction in federal court. On Tuesday, the injunction was rejected and Salinas officials have launched plans to issue 15-day notices to homeless camps across the city. Homeless advocates say they will file a new motion for a restraining order against the city. (S.G.)
