(07:27) MONTEREY COUNTY – The family of a Greenfield man who died in Monterey County Jail last year has filed a lawsuit. In January 2015, 56-year-old Mark Pajas died from complications of heroin withdrawal a day after being taken into custody. The victim’s family claims that jail staff failed to monitor Pajas, who was known to be detoxing. The suit has been filed against Monterey County, Natividad Medical Center and the California Forensic Medical Group and alleges civil rights violations, wrongful death and negligence. Pajas’s family is seeking unspecified damages as well as reimbursement for the victim’s burial. (S.G.)
