A Salinas man was convicted Thursday in the 2008 murder of his girlfriend, who was killed so he could receive the proceeds from her $600-thousand-dollar life insurance policy.

Prosecutors say 41-year-old Victor Cabrera fled to Mexico and lived there for 8-years before being arrested and brought back to the United States. He was found guilty of murder with the special circumstance of killing for financial gain.

An accomplice has already been convicted and jailed for life. Cabrera will be sentenced on September 27th.
