A 53-year-old man was hospitalized on Sunday, after he was injured in an explosion at a residence in the live oak area of santa cruz county. Cal-fire firefighters and members of the santa cruz county sheriff’s bomb squad responded to the incident. The man was in a detached studio on the 17-hundred block of Chanticleer Avenue. The victim was airlifted to an out of county trauma center. The cause of the explosion is under investigation, but the man is believed to have been smoking with a butane lighter when the incident occurred.
