At around 8 AM this morning, California Highway Patrol was alerted to a traffic collision on Highway 1 Southbound at Riverside in Watsonville.
The collision involved a Small white pickup truck versus the guardrail. A passenger in the truck allegedly shot himself in the truck and threw a gun over the bridge onto the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line.
The passenger remained in the truck, while the driver took off on foot running northbound on the highway, eventually laying down in the center divider.
Traffic in both directions was shut down.
Currently, Highway 1 southbound remains closed at Riverside in Watsonville; the investigation is ongoing.
