a salinas native was among the 6-marines killed in a helicopter crash on January 19^th, in afghanistan.   according to the Tacoma News Tribune, Captain Daniel b. bartle was born in salinas, and lived there until age 7.   captain bartle lived in Ferndale, Washington; he was deployed with the marine heavy helicopter squadron 363, marine aircraft group 24, 1^st marine aircraft wing, 3^rd marine expeditionary force, out of kaneohe bay, Hawaii.   Captain bartle and 5 other marines were killed when their CH-53D sea Stallion heavy lift helicopter crashed in helmund province, Afghanistan.   Captain bartle is set to be buried in Washington state on Monday.  He was 27 years old.
