Little Hill Sanctuary Saving Animals 09.09.2020 1005 6 JS

When the CZU Lightning fire was at its worst, tens of thousands of people were evacuated. As for animals, several rescue operations took place, including those from animal sanctuary organizations.

Camilla Landon of Little Hill Sanctuary in Royal Oaks shares her experience in dealing with this wildfire event.

“This was kind of all new for us. Once we realized that both the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter was overwhelmed, and then there’s another sanctuary up in the Felton Mountains that had to be evacuated, we were receiving animals from both of those organizations.  It just isn’t something we regularly do. To really rush and pull together in emergency circumstances, we didn’t even have time for sleep. It’s really hard”, Camilla said.

Landon added that her focus on evacuating animals consisted of birds due to the small footprint of their sanctuary and facilities.
