June 30, 2016: Santa Cruz County Voters to Decide on Sales Tax Supporting Transportation

(08:22) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – This November, Santa Cruz County residents will vote on a sales tax aiming to improve local transportation. The Safety, Pothole Repair, Traffic Relief and Transit Improvement Measure would implement a half-cent, 30-year sales tax that would go into effect next year. The tax is expected to collect over $500 million, which would be used to fund a number of projects, including adding auxiliary lanes connecting exits on Highway 1 and constructing a wildlife crossing on Highway 17. The measure must be approved by two-thirds of voters in the November election to pass. (S.G.)
