(09:13) SACRAMENTO – California lawmakers are considering a bill that would improve transparency in the Coastal Commission. AB 2002, authored by Assemblymember Mark Stone, would require people who lobby the Coastal Commission to comply with public disclosure laws. The lobbyists would be required to report to the Fair Political Practices Commission, and disclose who their employer is, how much they are being paid, and on what issues they are working. The legislation was introduced in response to the Commission’s recent controversial decision to remove its Executive Director, whose coastal protection policies gained wide public support. On Tuesday, the bill was approved by the Senate Natural Resources Committee. It will next be considered by a Senate fiscal committee. (S.G.)
