July 1, 2016: Carmel Officials Launch Beach Bonfire Pilot Program

(07:05) CARMEL – Carmel city officials have launched a pilot program that will allow up to a dozen beach bonfires at Carmel Beach on weekdays. The city council approved the trial program last month in an effort to clear the beach’s sand of charcoal as well as improve air quality and public safety. Anyone who wants to have a wood-burning fire at the beach must first obtain a permit from the city. There will be no limit on propane-fueled fires. A moratorium prohibiting fires at the beach on weekends and holidays remains in effect. (S.G.)
