(06:46) MONTEREY COUNTY – An Aromas man has been sentenced for vehicle theft and evading arrest. Last November, officers spotted 25-year-old Christopher Markert driving a stolen vehicle. Markert failed to pull over and led officers on a pursuit on Highway 1. During the chase, Markert crossed over double-yellow lines and crashed into a vehicle. He then sped off and eluded police. The following month, Markert was caught breaking into a vehicle at the Northridge Shopping Center in Salinas. He was able to drive away in the stolen car, evading arrest a second time. He was arrested in Watsonville two days later after being caught attempting to steal another vehicle. Markert was sentenced Thursday to six years and eight months in prison. (S.G.)
