Dr. Peter Glidden fills in for Dr. Wallach today. Asserting that medical doctors only manage disease states using pharmaceuticals to shut off body systems. Contending that doctors aren't trained in heath but rather trained to manage.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Peter Glidden discuss a news story on G.E.R.D. (gastroesophageal reflux disease). The story outlines some lifestyle and dietary changes that can be used to manage the symptoms. If these methods don't work a gastroenterologist who was interviewed for the story recommends drugs. Dr. Glidden disagrees contending that this just another example of MD's using pharmaceuticals to manage disease.

Dr. Wallach starts the show today discussing the importance of nutritonal supplementation. Outlining several common health challenges that he contends are due to nutritional deficiencies. Asserting that the "Mighty 90" from Youngevity is the best way to over-come these deficiencies.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a sleep study on teens. The study on just under 250 teens ages 16 to 19 found that those getting less than 7.5 hours of sleep a night were much more likely to eat high fat or high calorie snacks. These same teens a were also more likely to be over-weight or obese.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news report regarding healthcare spending in the U.S. The report states that along with everything else spending on healthcare is down considerabley. Doc asserts that now is a great time to start a home-based business through Youngevity.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Wiinfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news stories regarding health. The first article concerns a study that found people with a history of heart disease taking the weight loss drug Meridian had a 28% increased risk of heart attack and a 36% increased risk of stroke.

The second article concerns data from the CDC that has found in the past 10 years more Americans are taking prescription drugs. A 10% increase in those taking at least one drug. With a 20% increase in those taking multiple prescriptions and those taking 5 or more drugs rose to 70%.
