Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the metabolic symdrome formerly known as pre-diabetes. Asserting that this condition is linked to other more serious disease states such as weight gain, type II diabetes and heart disease. The second story concerns a study that found omega 3 fatty acids added to margarine did not get added benefits in heart attack prevention. Doc contends there are problems with the study. One of which is that in order to work properly omega 3's and omega 6's have to be in the proper ratio. Second the study participants were putting the margarine on bread at meals. This means that anyone in the study who has celiac disease will have difficulty absorbing the fats.
