Dr. Peter Glidden fills in for Dr. Wallach today starting the show discussing heart burn and acid reflux. Explaining that medications to treat these are the biggest selling drugs in America. Asserting that heart burn is not caused by too much stomach acid but not strong enough. Allowing yeast to grow causing gas, belching and bloating.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Glidden discuss a news article regarding a study of patients on statin drugs. A study of over 14,000 patients found those taking statins were 10% more likely to have muscle pain, strains and sprains than those not on the drug. Dr. Glidden asserts that statins don't work to prevent heart disease.

Asserting they often use treatment protocals that keep patients in treatment for years. While there non-drug treatments that can eliminate symptoms available for much less money.

These new doctors do things like not introducing themsevles to patients, not sitting down, not engaging family members present and not touching the patients. Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing medical mistakes and the numbers of people killed, injured or infected every year in the U.S. Asserting that the CDC cited statistics that in hospitals alone 2 million patients get infected and some 90,000 died in 2010. Contending that if Iraq or Iran used biotech weapons and killed that many Americans the U.S. would go to war. While the medical industry and medical doctors get a walk not even getting an OSHA ticket.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach disucss a news article concerning hospitals efforts to cut down on infections. Some hospitals are using systems that employ motion sensors that turn on video camaras when nurses or doctors enter a patient's room. The video cameras are monitored by workers in India who check to make sure the medical staff wash their hands. Others use hand washing coaches, undercover hand washing monitors or radio-frequency chips.

Dr. Wallach starts the show detalining a story about a recent interaction with an anthesthesiologist. Aside from being extremely arrogant Doc contends the other doctor stated that animal studies can't be translated to humans. Dr. Wallach asserts that if that were true why are virtually all pharmaceutical drugs first tested on animals before humans.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study on heart health. The study found that women who ate baked or broiled fish at least five servings a week had a 30% reduced risk of heart failure. The study also found that women who ate at least one serving of fried fish weekly increased their risk of heart failure by 48%. The researchers also determined that darker more oily fish such as salmon or mackerel got more protection than those eating lighter fish like tuna, sole or cod.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article concerning a study on marathon runners and any link to increased risk of cardiomyopathy heart attacks. The study results indicate these runners are no more likely to die from a heart attack than the general public. Doc asserts that any deaths due to cardiomyopathy heart attacks are not acceptable. Contending this type of heart attack are caused by a selenium deficiency.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news articles that relate to topics Dr. Wallach discusses frequently. The first is a study from Sweden that people who ate processed bacon or sausage (1.8 ounces) daily had a 20% increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Those who consumed 3.5 ounces had 38% increased risk and those eating 5.3 ounces had a 57% increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Next they discuss a study from Denmark people who drinking one liter of regular soda daily had 25% more fat surrounding organs and nearly doubled the amount of fat in the liver and muscle.
