Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing news articles on recent studies regarding health. The first study found that drinking 2 or more carbonated soft drinks weekly increased risk of pancreatic cancer. The second article urges potential knee surgery patients to seek a second opinion because a growing number of orthopedic surgeons also owning their own rehab facilities. This insures the surgeon can collect multiple fees from each patient.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article on healthcare rationing. Despite what lawmakers are saying regarding healthcare rationing it already exists in the U.S. and has for years. This comes from that fact that doctors are reimbursed different rates depending on the payment method used by the patient. Privately insured patients pay the highest rates, followed by Medicare (primarily used by the elderly) and then Medicaid (used by the poor). Based off these different scales doctors often make Medicaid patients wait or refuse to see them at all.

Doctor Wallach, I had a "cardiac calcium scan" last year which resulted in a score of 194. What should I do?
I am already taking Ultimate daily 2x3, and HSP. What else do you recommend?
