Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing gluten intolerance. Asserting that Celiac disease, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), diverticulititis and ulcerative colitis are all basically the same just different locations and degrees of severity. Contending that according to the Mayo Clinic 30% of Americans and in some communities up to 85% have some degree of intolerance to gluten.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding the Affordable Care Act. This will add an additional 32 million people to an already strained system. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges by the year 2015 there will be a nationwide shortage of over 63,000 doctors. In fact by the year 2025 that figure balloons to 130,600 mostly primary care doctors. It's been known that since 2000 there has been a shortage of nurses and those numbers have remained the same. So although it's paid for who will actually be providing care? In other countries with that same problem there are reports of long office visit waits and subpar service.
