15:33 SANTA CRUZ-The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County has raised all the funds it needs to protect land on either side of Highway 17 for a wildlife tunnel. The final piece of funding was a $200,000 grant from the Coastal Conservancy to help purchase an easement on Laurel Curve. Additional funding for the $1.6 million purchase came from the Wildlife Conservation Board, the Natural Resources Agency, and donors to the Land Trust’s Great Land & Trail Campaign. Project Director Dan Medeiros emphasized the importance of building the tunnel at Laurel Curve. “Road kill data tells us that almost half the animals hit on Highway 17 are hit at Laurel Curve.” For more details and to donate, visit landtrustsantacruz.org, or call the Land Trust office at (831) 429-6116.
