Hollister city officials are taking steps to reduce the stench of a waste pond. A number of residents have complained about the odor coming from the water treatment pond which receives water from the San Benito Foods tomato processing facility. The city council is now considering the installation of ‘floating islands’. The islands have aerators underneath them, keeping the smell and sludge below the water. The cost of the islands would be covered by San Benito Foods.
