Nerves were on edge yesterday in the Santa Cruz mountains when a small wildfire broke out around 4:30 at wilder ranch state park.
Fire crews were able to quickly extinquish the blaze before it grew to more than an acre by dropping fire retardant around the flames.
The fire sent up a huge plume of smoke prompting officials to warn on campus students at UCSC to be prepared just in case the fire got out of control.
