Gray Whales are making their annual southern migration through the Monterey Bay Area. The whales’ 12,000 mile trek will end at the calving grounds in the lagoons of Mexico. This southern migration historically peaks in mid-January. By the middle of March the whales are generally headed back north (to the Bering Sea)….with their calves in tow. During the entire migration (north and south) Gray Whales do not eat.
