With schools now open for a week, the North Monterey County Unified School District is again working hard to provide students with food choices they want and like.
The federal Community Eligibility Program provides free breakfast and lunch to all north Monterey students. Many area districts also participate in the program.
With hundreds of students across grades k through 6, the district works to provide at least two entrée options each day, along with a vegetable, fruit, and milk, all for free.
School officials say menus are staggered so that students have a variety of choices from day-to-day.
